Under consideration are western alignments through either Fauquier or Prince William counties and into Loudoun County, with a new Potomac River crossing into either Montgomery or Frederick County, Maryland, to connect with U.S. 70 west of Baltimore.
The eastern bypass corridor roughly follows U.S. 301 in Maryland to intersect Interstate 95 in Virginia near Fredericksburg.
At last month’s meeting of the advisory committee, Carrington Williams, who represents the regional airport authority for Dulles, National and Baltimore-Washington International airports, proposed a resolution giving an outright endorsement of a western route for the bypass. But Loudoun County representative Marvin Watts managed to have the measure tabled.
For Monday’s meeting, Williams was back with the compromise that stopped short of unqualified support.
