The annual report released by the Virginia Health Services Cost Review Commission shows that the average cost per day at Culpeper Memorial Hospital is well below the state median and increasing at a far slower rate.
Based upon a survey of all the state’s hospitals, the report lists the state median cost per day as $670, an 8.8 percent increase from last year.
At CMH the average cost per day was $531, an increase of only 1.9 percent from last year.
The survey was performed in February' to assist consumers in comparing charges among various hospitals.
The commission cautions consumers, however, that the data does not reflect quality factors, the extent of charity provided, or expensive services such as emergency departments and open heart surgery.
