art contest
Washington, D. C.—U. S. Congressman D. French Slaughter, Jr., (R-VA) recently announced the formation of a Seventh District Art Advisory Committee and other plans for the 1989 Congressional Art Competition. The contest is open to all high school students in Virginia’s Seventh District.
“The Art Advisory Committee— which consists of 11 outstanding members of communities across the Seventh District—has already contributed a great deal of time and energy to this project. I am certainly grateful for their help and I look forward to working with them on this worthy event in the months to come,” said Mr. Slaughter.
Rep. Slaughter mentioned that letters about the competition have been sent from his Congressional office to high schools in the Seventh District. He added that members of his Art Advisory Committee will be contacting each art department in the next few weeks with informational packets.
The “Power of Contrasts" is the theme of this year’s art contest. The deadline for the contest is Feb. 15, 1989. All entries must adhere to regulations set by the Art Advisory Committee in conjunction with the Congressional Arts Caucus, of which. Mr. Slaughter is a member. Other details will soon be announced.
Slaughter’s committee, called the Seventh District Congressional Art Advisory Committee, consists of the following people: Mary Allen (Windmore Foundation for the Arts); Juliette Armer (The Shenandoah Arts Council); Betsy Blauvelt (The Blue Ridge Arts Council); Fay Dutton (Shenandoah Valley Artists Association); Laurie Marshall (Middle Street Gallery in Rappahannock County); Roger Maier (Prince William County Cultural Arts Federation); Janet Payne (Stafford County High School Art Department); Drema Setti (Germanna Community College); Page Anne Smith (Fauquier County Parks and Recreation); Judy Walker (Ash Lawn-Highland); and Jean Wilhelm (V.A.A.E./Piedmont Council of the Arts Chapter).
Congressman Slaughter is one of over 250 Members of the U. S. House of Representatives who conducts an art contest.
