One Hospice of the Rapidan volunteer, June Tyler of Orange, says, “1 feel it is a privilege to share this experience." Hospice people are there to assist not to take over.
A hospice is not a place but a system of care. The emphasis is on comfort not cure. Hospice care generally takes place in the patient’s home. The basic treatment unit in contrast to traditional hospital care is not the individual patient but the entire family.
Hospice of the Rapidan accepts patients wTho have been diagnosed with end-stage heart disease, AIDS, cancer, chronic lung disease, and neurological disorders. The patient retains his ow n physician. However, Dr. Thomas Reynolds of Culpeper Family Practice, Hospice’s Medical Director, is available for consultation.
