been compromised beyond redemption.
Taxes there are outrageous. I paid more taxes on a small pick-up truck in Fairfax than I do for a house and seven acres here. One man who was making a modest living on a 25 acre farm received a tax bill for $35,000 after the subway arrived. The retired routinely must find work just to pay their taxes.
Developers are notorious for raping the land and fleeing when it finally resembles something between a rat’s nest and a cesspool. More than one of Fairfax’s biggest developers has moved out this way, and their greedy projects are not far behind.
I don’t understand the mentality required to turn an American battlefield where brother shot brother (Manassas), into a shopping mall. I’m not going to shop where dead soldiers lie.
Developers are a devious and deceitful lot who can never be trusted. In Prince William, after they get zoning approval to build, they enlarge the project and then take the county to court if it chooses to intervene. All real estate transactions and zoning appeals must be stringently reviewed by county officials.
Lastly, I would like to commend and thank the county’s supervisors for their fairness, as well as the personal sacrifices and controversies they endure. Please continue the effort to get land ordinances into the books and eliminate the loopholes. As we’ve already seen, there’s always someone waiting to exploit them.
What’s happening at the Culpeper county line at Route 211? The developers and their subdivisions are in our front yard.
