The Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority is the agency responsible for the Washington & Old Dominion Trail, which is now paved from Shirlington to Purcellville and is open to pedestrian and bicycle traffic (there is also a parallel equestrian trail).
You can reach the trail beside the old granary in downtown Purcellville, at several locations as it bisects Leesburg and where it is intersected by (from west to east) routes 287, 704, 7 (at its junction with Route 9), 15, 659, 641, 28 and 637 in Loudoun County.
