The production will feature sets designed by Davis West of San Diego, new costumes and a Christmas tree that grows on stage.
Starring in the role of the Sugar Plum Fairy will be Ballet South principal dancer Janelle Tatum. Ms. Tatum trained on scholarship with the Harkness Ballet,, and received numerous honors in the National Arts Foundation’s Recognition and Talent Search.
Damon Diaz will appear as the Cavalier with Ms. Tatum. Mr. Diaz received his classical training in Miami, Fla., with Madam Renee Sintgraft and Thomas Armour. He has been a scholarship student with North Carolina School of the Arts, Ballet West and the School of American Ballet. Mr. Diaz has performed with the Atlanta Ballet and Miami Ballet.
Ballet South's performances of “The Nutcracker” will be at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3 and at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 4, in the Fauquier High School Auditorium on U.S. Route 211, just west of Warrenton.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children or senior citizens. The Moving Arts Center Inc., founded more than a decade ago in Warrenton, is a nonprofit group dedicated to bringing quality, professional dance and the performing arts to Fauquier County.
