The Rappahannock County Board of Zoning Appeals approved a variance for John Ferdetta and his wife to continue building their house within 15 feet from the side line of their property on Route 642 in Amissville, rather than adhere to the 50-foot setback required by the zoning ordinance for agriculturally-zoned land.
The mistake in locating the house occurred because Mr. Ferdetta relied on information given him by a surveyor, he told the BZA last Wednesday. When that surveyor didn’t give him a plat of the property or even return his calls, he called in another surveyor, who showed him that the house was located 50 feet closer to the property line than he had thought.
