smooth, hard stone requires a little extra work. After removing as much stain as possible with the eraser, scrub the area with a solution of 1/2 cup trisodium phosphate and a gallon of warm water.
As a last resort, a bleach solution will also sometimes remove stubborn stains. Be very careful, however, that the bleach does not splash on rugs, painted surfaces or stained wood.
Make sure there is adequate ventilation when using any household chemicals or cleaners.
And, allow time for the fireplace to dry completely before using. Cool, wet stone or brick surfaces may crack if suddenly heated by a fire.
