Eastham, v$l be the site of the 17th running of tlje Old Dominion Point-to-Point on Saturday, April 8. r Beginning at 10:30 a.m. with the pairs race, the day will feature nine races on the flat and over timber and brush jumps. The competition for the Old Dominion Hunt Cup will also add points toward the Seven Corners Trophy, awarded each year to the “winningest” owner-rider of the season. .. For this year’s event, all the timber fences on the course have been rebuilt. And another improvement has been made to a controversial fqnce, the sixth and last before the finish. In years past, riders have complained of the late afternoon sun Minding them as they approached this fence. Now, number six has been repositioned so that the approach curve and the low rays of the afternoon sun can cause no difficulties in visibility.
The race committee reports that the turf on the course is in excellent shape, and the recent rains have strengthened it still further.
This course, which doubles as pasture for cattle and hay when not in use for racing, is the result of an arrangement between the Old Dominion Hounds and Mr. and Mrs. Eastham.
