Clarence Baldwin, incumbent
for the Hampton District member of the Rappahannock Board of Supervisors, has declared his intentions to seek re-election. Baldwin, a merchant in Washington, was first appointed to fill the unexpired term of Newbill Miller in 1973. He was elected in 1975 for a full term and wishes to continue in the seat. Baldwin at first considered giving up the position, but said his constituents had pressed him to remain.

senior Ann Oliver has won the state DAR good citizen award. She received the state medal and a $100 educational award at a breakfast in Roanoke earlier this month during the Virginia’s Daughters of the American Revolution convention. Ann is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.W. Oliver of Woodville.
When Sperryville weather watcher Dennis Wingfield received a letter from D.C. last week, he didn’t know what it was. He later kidded he only knew it wasn’t a check. The envelope was too big, he says. Still, it was good news. Wingfield received word he has been chosen by the National Weather Service to be part of its network to report severe weather eonditons. The National Weather Service is part of the U.S. Department of Commerce and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Wingfield added. This makes him “an official severe weather reporter,” he says.
