has offered testing of apples and apple products for school divisions upon request. Several have requested information about Alar, but there have been no requests for tests of products on hand.
VDACS Commissioner S. Mason Carbaugh reports that USDA-donated processed apple products received in Virginia during the current school year have come from processors who do not accept apples treated with Alar. The agency will continue to monitor apples and apple products on a periodic basis.
Virginia Superintendent of Public Instruction S. John Davis suggests that school officials contact VDACS if they are concerned about chemical or pesticide contamination.
