“Congratulations to all Rappahannock County Heart Association volunteers,” said Elino Siira, chairman of the county’s residential campaign.
The county volunteers collected over $6,000, exceeding the county’s goal by $3,500, Mr. Siira reported. Credit for this outstanding achievement goes to all the district captains and the local door-to-door volunteers, he added.
Special recognition is due Dr. Gil Webb, President of the Rappahannock Unit of the American Heart Association, Mr. Siira said. He also served as a district captain in Jackson District and the Flint Hill area of Wakefield District.
Dr. Webb and his helpers in the two districts collected $2,881, of which $1,565 was from Jackson and $1,316 from the Wakefield-Flint Hill area.
Dr. Webb’s helpers in the Jackson District were Aide Holman, Merrill Strange, Janet Yancey, Kitty Gallaher, Jane Peterson, Gloria Switzer, Cheryl Stone, Pearl Clarke, Nora Segrest and Ronald Frazier.
Those helping in the Flint Hill area were Patty Metcalf, Joan Hall, Joann Welch, Nina Stamer, Field Benton, Franklin Hume, Paul Nichols, Barbara Dennis, Carol Hales, Millie Welch, Rosa Monroe, Ruth Grimsley, Breezie Gannon, Bev Atkins, Frances Bradford and John Ralph.
With the addition of $283 collected by Maybelle Gilkey, captain in the Chester Gap area, and her helpers, Wakefield District became the first in the amount collected, a total of $1,599. Maybelle Gilkey’s helpers were Art Town, Jeanette Priest, Orley Seal and Diane Ricker.
Dr. Webb and his volunteers in Jackson District placed second with a total of $1,565.
Under the captaincy of Carolyn Manwaring and Lucia Kilby, Stonewell-Hawthorne District placed third in the amount of funds collected, a total of $1,532.30.
