It is important for people getting Social Security benefits to inform Social Security of any change of address, according to Bruce A. Hundley, Culpeper Branch manager.
“This is important, even if the person has arranged for direct deposit of his or her checks in a financial institution. Occasionally, we have to contact people even if they have arranged for direct deposit,” Mr. Hundley said. “If we cannot locate the person, we may have to stop sending out his or her monthly check.”
A change of address can be reported by mail or phone. If it is reported in writing, both the old and new addresses, including ZIP code, should be included, as well as the Social Security claim number and the names of all family members who are
