Call for entries
Interested artists are invited to submit photographs, paintings, drawings and sculptures of people in Rappahannock County for a juried show entitled: “Faces of Rappahannock,” to be presented at Middle St. Gallery, June 2-18. This show will be juried by Washington portrait photographer Carol Harrison, one of the Virginia Museum of the Arts Affiliate Artists. Artwork should be delivered to the gallery on Wednesday, May 31 between noon and 6 p.m., framed and ready to hang. The show will be curated by Cindy Mahan, and questions may be addressed to her at 675-3837 or to the Gallery, 675-3440. Work is to be submitted on June 1, and there will be a show fee of $5.
'A Handful of Dust'
The movie A Handful of Dust will be playing at the Gay Street Theater on Saturday and Sunday, May 27 and 28 at 8 p.m. each evening. The movie stars Angelica Huston and Alec Guinness. The cloistered existence of a wealthy family in 1930’s England is disrupted by the arrival of a penniless socialite. Academy Award-winners Huston and Guinness give superb performances in this handsomely mounted adaptation of Evelyn Waugh’s novel. The movie is rated PG. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children.
Flea market to benefit FHFD
The Flint Hill Volunteer Fire Department’s second annual flea market is planned for Saturday, June 3, beginning at 10 a.m. at the fire grounds. All proceeds go to the fire department for operational expenses. Donations of new or usable items are needed. All donations are tax deductible. Items may be dropped off at the fire hall on May 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. or by contacting any fire company member.
