Toby Waterbury 'also had a bad start in the 120 hurdles. “I could have eaten lunch, I got out of the blocks so slow,” he joked. Nevertheless he still almost managed to qualify in the preliminary heat, but he couldn’t overtake the second place runner. (The top two from each heat advanced to the finals). And Waterbury did drop six-tenths of a second off his previous best of 17.7.
“I’m going to work on my start all year and maybe I’ll have it right by next year,” he said. “I really didn’t expect to make it this far in my first year, but next year I won’t have any excuses for not being in the state meet.”
