Is that the type of information we want circulating through the schoolyard grapevine? Wouldn’t it be preferable for the students to learn the facts about sex, and the responsibilities which must go along with it. Those facts, taught in the proper context, should lead the students toward abstinence.
Sure, kids experiment. But kids experiment whether they understand what they are doing or not. How many of those speakers at the hearing remember playing “Doctor” when they were kids? Some probably did, although they might not admit to it now.
Perhaps there are some particular items in the curriculum which need some fine-tuning. But to suggest that the entire thing is a plot hatched by dangerous “Liberals,” or to allege that nameless instructors will actually — despite the guidelines — teach that homosexuality is an acceptable lifestyle, are irresponsible and, in the absence of proof, baseless charges.
Wake up, Rappahannock. Whether we like it or not, the world has changed. For the protection of our children, it is important that they learn the facts — facts taught by responsible adults, not whispered half-truths passed from child to child in the schoolyards and school buses.
