the present siding and replace it with a stucco “system” consisting of an insulating foamboard faced with a mesh netting, on which a synthetic stucco resin is applied, met with questions from the board.
“I was all set to approve the application until he told me that it is artificial, put on in sections,” Mrs. Willis said.
Only the foam board is put on in sections, Mr. Zindel explained. The mesh is continuous, as is the stucco coating on the exterior.
Under the Historic District Ordinance, which i$ administered by the ARB, only materials in use before 1900 may be used in construction or renovation within the town's historic district.
The stucco system, Mr. Zindel explained, looks like traditional stucco and even has the same cement base. But it also includes a fibreglass resin, wrhich makes the surface last longer and, except for occasional repaintings, required little upkeep.
