The climbing type nasturtium rapidly grows to a height of six to eight feet, and will quickly cover a fence or lattice. This vine climbs by twining around its support; therefore, you will need to provide string, wire, or a trellis for climbing nasturtiums. Climbing types also may be used to hang down from a windowbox or trail along a bank or stone retaining wall. Vining varieties prefer shade from the midday sun.
The canary creeper is closely related to the nasturtium. When planted in a semi-shaded location with a rich moist soil, this vine will grow to a height of six to ten feet. The leaves are somew-hat similar to maple but more deeply notched. The pale yellow flowers about one inch across display two large and three small petals, and a green spur. From a distance they look like small canary binls.
