In summer’s dog days when the mercury tops 90 and the humidity is 100 percent, it’s not usually the time when a young man’s — or young woman’s — fancy- turns to basketball. But last month, 58 boys and girls who fancy basketball participated in Rappahannock’s All-Net Basketball Camp.
Organized by Gary and Renee Leake, the camp was a resounding success for everyone. “This was the second year we’ve had a camp. This one was far better than last year’s, which was a one-dimensional shot doctor camp,” said Mr. Leake, the coach of the Rappahannock Panthers high school team.
Tony Shaver, head basketball coach at Hampton-Sydney College, ran the camp. He worked the kids in all facets of the game of basketball, offensively and defensively, physically and mentally.
“It was hard work, but it was also a lot of fun. The Leakes did a great job putting it together, and I look forward to more in the future,” said freshman Kevin Jolliffe, expressing what seemed to be the majority opinion about the camp.
