The Bluemont Concert Series is pleased to present Hot Jazz, one of the Washington area’s most exciting jazz bands, in concert on Saturday, July 22, on the lawn of the Warren Green in downtown Warrenton. The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. Requested donation is $2 per person. All are welcome.
Hot Jazz is a seven piece jazz band from the Washington, D.C. area playing the big hand sound of the late twenties through mid-forties. Hot Jazz performs the snappy music of Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Tommy Dorsey and other Swing Era musicians, including Hot Jazz originals.
Hot Jazz captures the look, the sound and the atmosphere of creativity that was jazz during the Swing Era. The members of Hot Jazz include Brooks Tegler, leader, drums; Terry Benton, bass and vocals; Clyde Hunt, trumpet and flugelhorn; Gary Gregg, clarinet and tenor sax; John Cocuzzi, vibes and piano; Sid Keithly, piano and Jeff Severson on guitar.
The lawn of the historic Warren Green Hotel is a beautiful setting to hear a concert, a Bluemont spokesman said. While there is no admission charged, people attending the concerts are encouraged to contribute towards the cost of the evening. There is plenty of parking available, and downtown streets are closed to vehicular traffic during the concert. Local ordinances prohibit the use of alcohol and the bringing of animals to the concerts, the spokesman added.
Families are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chairs and a picnic if they like. Homemade refreshments are often availble at intermission, prepared by local community organizations.
