viewing accordingly. True, this is almost impossible when a child is visiting another’s home, and is one of the many problems for parents who cannot be with their children at all times. Perhaps, for some, lock-boxes are the answer.
What is not the answer is a “community standard,” an idea which is both unrealistic and latently threatening to the public right to'freedom of choice.
Along with lock-boxes, monitoring, and other practical approaches, there is the time-honored practice of conveying moral and ethical standards through parental counsel and example. In an imperfect society, these are continuing challenges. Closing TV circuits will not drive them away.
Finally, it seems rather meanspirited, if not punitive (no matter how well-intentioned) to suggest that cable TV should be withheld on the premise that economically disadvantaged folks may wish to indulge in the pleasure of it and thus spend unwisely. Now, really!
