To the editor:
I address the following comments in response to an article that appeared in The Northern Virginia Daily, July IS concerning Avtex Fibers and the charges made by the individual challenging me for the House of Delegates seat.
I am glad to see that at long last Mr. Crump has admitted, or at least acknowledged, that he realizes that the enforcement of violation of pollution laws is a responsibility of the office of the Attorney General. In case he does not realize it, or understand it, it is the duty of the Legislature to set state policy through the enactment of legislation and to provide service to the constituents one is honored to serve.
Any public statements by me concerning the “Avtex situation’’ would in all likelihood be counterproductive on one hand and viewed as self-serving political rhetoric on the other.
Since first elected to serve the people of this district I have supported legislation to protect our citizens by requiring clean air and clean water. It is the duty of the staffs of the Air Pollution Control Board and the Water Pollution Control Board to police these laws and whatever regulations are adopted by their respective Boards to implement the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
