How sad to read “Letters to the editor” of the News excoriating the efforts and persons of Messrs. Von Fange and Heddleston!
From the Surgeon General on down, warnings from the medical community have been urging the public to refrain from smoking. “May be injurious to your health” is a household phrase. Pregnant women are warned of fetal problems: parents are cautioned not to create “slip-stream" smoke which does dastardly harm to their children's lungs and circulatory systems.
Remember how smoking was a "rite of passage” and children were not supposed to use cigerattes until they were a certain age? We used to laugh (we didn’t know the dangers then) at stories of youngsters smoking cornsilk behind the barn!
How much more injurious are the TV shows and films called “adult?” Not injurious physically—though many will argue that physical crimes have been committed from their influence—but injurious to minds and hearts and souls? Isn’t the parent who watches "adult” fare creating a mental slip-stream atmosphere in the home, giving his/her children the clear message that what the parent watches will be okay when the child
