"Coach Shaver emphasized that in order to become a better player we had to work on our weaknesses, not our strengths. For most of us it was defense,” said junior Robert Mawyer.
“Sometimes as a coach during the regular season you're limited in what you can do because you’re only one person. This week we had seven coaches which broke down to an eight-to-one ratio. That’s real comfortable to work with! The Rappahannock community has been really supportive of our basketball program. The desire to win is strong,” said Mr. Leake.
There were 12 girls at the camp, and their participation had Mrs. Leake smiling. “Girls’ varsity starts in eight weeks, and there were five girls here that should be on that team. This week really helps us prepare for the upcoming season. Plus it was fun,” she said.
The highlight of the week came on Thursday, tournament day, an entire day of games. “The other highlight was the shirt that each camper got. There were designed by Fodderstack Shirts. It was nice to have that addition over last year,” said Mr. Leake.
