Delegates I have sought to encourage compliance with the laws concerning our environmental protection quietly and, hopefully persuasively. I have arranged meetings between the highest Avtex officials and the Secretaries of Natural Resources and of Economic Development to ensure that they, Avtex, were fully aware of the state’s concern and outrage at the continued violations and to see how Avtex could get on an attainment schedule.
Granted, this does not grab headlines or sell media, but it gets better results than does antagonizing $11 concerned.
I operate a farm and have lived along the Shenandoah River downstream from Avtex for most, if not all, of my life. I share the concern and impatience of our citizens arid have been trying to obtain compliance.
The Environmental Protection Agency, which is a federal agency, must proceed with its efforts for the Superfund site cleanup and it is the responsibility of the office of the Aitorney General to attempt to enforce the findings of the Pollution Control Boards through the Courts of ttye Commonwealth of Virginia.
