Chapter Chairman, presented the awards to four seniors from the area high schools. The school faculties were asked to select three nominees from the senior class who exemplified best these four qualities — dependability, service, leadership and patriotism.
Alphabetically by high school, the following were honored: Melissa Oliver of Culpeper from Culpeper High School, Anne Wingate of Banco from Madison High School, Benjamin Roy of Washington from Rappahannock County High School, and Dawn Weston of Middleburg from Wakefield School in Huntly. All were presented the DAR Good Citizen Award certificate, a book titled “Pillars of Patriotism”, and the DAR Good Citizen pin with the mothers pinning their son and daughters.
Closing remarks were made by the District VI Director, Mrs. Edgar F. Puryear, Jr., who summed up the awards by stating the three objectives of the DAR when it was founded one hundred years ago — historical, educational and patriotic.
