The Department is very proud of J.B. Carter’s recent recognition as the 1989 Outstanding Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Person for Rappahannock County.
Vice President Carroll Ray Settle strongly emphasized that dedication of department members is the key to the success and outstanding reputation the department enjoys. Members spend many long hours in training and responding to fire and rescue calls. Last year they responded to almost 500 calls, Mr. Settle said.
Officers of the department are: President, David Sheffield; Vice President, Carroll Ray Settle; Secretary, Barbara Daymude; Treasurer, Shelia Scott; Fire Chief, Paul A. Poling; Assistant Chief, Robert Croston; Captain, Scott Chamberlin; Lieutenant, David Milboume; Rescue Captain, J.B. Carter; and Rescue Lieutenant, Sharon Scott.
Life members (individuals with 25 years or more service) are: Paul Poling, Bobby Carter, Jack Atkins, Levi Atkins, Arthur Brown, Phoebe Green, Gilbert Lawrence, Charlie Priest and Everett Smith.
Fire Chief Paul Poling, with more than 50 years of service himself, said he is proud of everyone of the 60-member department. He also expressed great appreciation to the citizens of the community for their strong support over the years; he said without their help the Department would cease to exist, or be unable to provide fire and rescue services in a timely manner.
Chief Poling expressed a special pride in the dedication of the department members. He said the fire personnel are well trained and in many areas are crosstrained to Emergency Medical Technician or higher level.
