and Advanced Life Support Ambulances and a Medium Duty Rescue Squad truck. Included on the rescue side are Emergency Medical Technicians, Shock Trauma Technicians and Cardiac Technicians.
Many long hours are required in training, which is updated on a continuing basis. An Emergency Medical Technician must receive a minimum of 120 hours of training; another 87 hours to become a Shock Trauma Technician, and another 154 1/2 hours to become a Cardiac Technician.
Many technicians are also instructors themselves, teaching other department members or citizens of the community. Scott Chamberlin and J.B. Carter taught Firefighter I and II last year. J.B. Carter and Kenney Pullen of Flint Hill just finished teaching an EMT class here.
Captain Scott Chamberlin remarked the training members received on farm equipment paid off recently when a lcoal boy’s hand and arm were caught in a corn-picker.
Fire and rescue services are provided to an initial response area of approximately 125 sq. mi. If needed, they do not hesitate to assist outside the initial response area. Located near the Fauquier and Culpeper county lines, approximately 62 percent of all calls are made in Culpeper County and the balance in Rappahannock.
