Gifts to the Annual Fund provide financial assistance for charity care. Because of the lower payments from most health care insurers and the growing number of patients who cannot pay, there is a widening gap between charges and payments received. While annual gifts are very important, they are not sufficient to secure the future of medical excellence at CMH. Donations to the Endowment Fund build financial stability for the hospital as the principle is retained, and only the interest may be used in the hospital’s behalf. This year the Endowment Fund received gifts totaling $116,877. A major or planned gift requires careful consideration by the donor concerning the impact it will have on the donor’s financial and estate planning, and planned gifts also provide benefits to the donor as well as to the hospital. Helping donors make taxwise gifts is an important service to friends of CMH. The Campaign for CMH, the capital drive to support recent improvements to the hospital, continued its success this year as pledges total $1,300,000. These generous gifts have gone directly to the construction, and patients are reaping the benefits of the improvements.

Memorials and gifts of specific equipment are other types of gifts which are appropriate for many donors. For information on ways of making a gift to suit your wishes, please contact Charlotte C. Cannon, executive director, 829-4307.
