On January 22 patients first received their surgery in the state-of-the-art surgical suite at Culpeper Memorial Hospital.
"This new surgical suite complements the hospital’s first-rate staff and modern equipment to give our patients very high quality care,” said Dr. Russell Brear, chairman of the Department of Surgery, at the ribbon cutting held in December.
“The new surgical suite is the equal of any facility in the country. The fact that it was under construction was one of the reasons that brought me to Culpeper,” said Dr. Mark Gloudeman, the newest surgeon at CMH.
"With the generous help of many friends in our community, CMH has been able to accomplish the project we set out to do three years ago,” said Bill Gravely, president of CMH. "Unlike other neighboring hospitals, we have not been forced to resort to the expense of complete replacement of our hospital. We have been fortunate to meet the community’s needs through renovation, thus keeping our mortgage cost at a considerably lower level.” The final part of the $4 million facilities enhancement project to be completed, the new surgical suite replaces the original operating rooms which were built in 1960. Like the original hospital, the new surgical suite has three operating rooms; they are considerably larger, however, to accommodate large surgical equipment.
