While we are talking price, look at your telephone bill. Has servio improved to justify those increases? Or, price out a soda at a vending ma chine. The can size hasn’t changed but the price has gone up to as high as $1.00 — assuming the machine works.
Or better yet, look at your pay check. Are you still at the 1971 salary level (the year the Postal Service became an independent organization)? I doubt it. That may be why we pay 35 cents for our newspaper today. I feel that is a bargain and ours has not been delivered late since we becajne a subscriber three years ago.
You mentioned service that needs to be improved. Yes, there is always room for improvement. About 95 percent of the mail destined to overnight areas was delivered on time last year. Although that’s an enviable performance when you consider that only 90 percent carry proper addresses, still, like any good company, the Postal Service would like to see that 95 percent reach 100 percent.
Finally, look at the people who provide the mail service to this Nation. They take a lot of heat for service failures, but few customers realize the sacrifice that is made to
