In order to get county stickers for their cars, residents have to bring their registration cards to Ms. Atkins’ office. In that way her office has information for personal property taxes. The vehicles are assessed according to values published by the National Automobile Dealers Association. She gets print-outs of that information also cross-referenced with computer tapes supplied by the Division of Motor Vehicles.
By mid-July her office is ready to send off new information to be included in the land and personal property books. By mid-August the books are back and are checked. Any changes that were missed are noted and the firm than prepares the tax bills.
Then she starts noting changes in land ownership recorded in Circuit Court Clerk Diane Bruce’s office. Her office has completed land transfers through the end of June, but they will continue to note changes in land ownership to see that the bills go to the new owners.
