On education, he said that Virginia’s students don’t need to compete against each other; they need to be able to compete with students from Tokyo and Bohn. He said he favored total “local control” over education, and cutting back on the “cost of the bureaucracy of the state’s Department of Education.”
Mr. Robb, 53, is retired from the FBI. He worked for the FBI in Charlottesville from 1969 to 1989. He is also a former teacher, who taught in Warren, Ohio. He is married and has three grown children.
He said he expects to spend the campaign out meeting people. He has visited Rappahannock. “Sen. Michie calls that gladhanding,” he said. “I call it democracy.”
Sen. Michie is on vacation and w'as unavailable for comment. Jack Home, chairman of his reelection committee, disagreed with Mr. Robb’s comments.
