Margaret Haynes brought her campaign for the 26th State Senate District seat to Rappahannock County last Wednesday.
Speaking before a small crowd at the courthouse, she said she was seeking the Democratic Party nomination for the seat because with Republican Kevin Miller representing the district, “We haven’t been getting our money’s worth for the past eight years, and I want to change that.”
The 26th Senate District includes all of Rappahannock except for the area that was Stonewall-Hawthom District before the most recent redistricting.
She said with “unbridled” growth in the Northern Virginia and Tidewater areas of the state “the more rural regions of Virginia must elect strong, knowledgable and capable representatives to carry their message to Richmond.”
She said as a Democrat she looks forward to being a member of “the team of the majority party,” but she added: “I think Virginians are fed up with bickering and backbiting within each party and between the parties.”
Ms. Haynes was traveling throughout the district Wednesday announcing her candidacy. She visited Page County before coming to Rappahannock. She left Rappahannock to go to Warrenton, Culpeper and back to Harrisonburg.
Ms. Haynes is an aide to Sixth District Congressman Jim Olin, DVa. She is in charge of his Harrisonburg office.
She faces no opposition for the nomination.
