Wakefield School in Huntly has been notified by the Southern Interscholastic Press Association (SIPA) that the literary magazine, Talisman, has earned an All-Southern, or first-place, award in the annual competition.
Magazines are judged in six categories with 100 points being a perfect score; Talisman was awarded 93 points. The six categories are divided in various sections with a magazine’s strengths and weaknesses noted. In the display typography category, the judge gave Talisman the maximum score and noted that the typography “looks great!”
In the content category, the magazine received 34 of 35 possible points with a comment from the judge that the content was very good with a nice reliance on fiction.
The judge wrote additional comments about numerous individual pieces of art. Jamed Stephens’ (of Front Royal) illustration of a tube of paint spilling its contents was cited as was a decorative illustration of flowers and the spider’s web by Paul Mitchell of Warrenton.
