He added that besides goals of expanding their membership base, the group has changed meeting times, sites and the group’s structure.
“Parents and teachers are invited to attent the monthly meetings,” the chairman said, though for parents and teachers unable to attend the meetings, two annual family-style picnic conferences are planned for their benefit.
Working with 10 committees and volunteers, the PTO plans to conduct monthly executive meetings.
Besides chairman Greg Robertson and co-chairperson Joan Platt, new to the PTO are the enrichment and cultural committee, chaired by Jean Falk-Morgan; the resource committee, chaired by Laurie Marshall; the hospitality committee, chaired by Margaret Baumgardner and co-chaired by Janet Smoot; new secretary Sandra Antony; newsletter chairperson Kay Robertson; bulletin board chairperson Peggy Shadier and treasurer Helen (Holly) May.
The group has already elected this year’s officers, but it still needs volunteers to help with the various events held throughout the school year. Parents and teachers interested in helping with any committee can volunteer on fee day or contact the committee person from the list enclosed in PTO packets available on fee day.
“We always need volunteers,” co-chairperson Joan Platt said, adding “volunteers need only give their time and it usually just a little bit of time.”
Donating a few hours of time to bake goods, help with the teacher dinner, sell items at a bake sale, assist with a school dance or party, offer help at fee day or provide assistance during a PTO function is part of volunteer duty.
“We have some terrific volunteers,” Kay Robertson said, adding some do not have children in the schools, just a desire to help.
“We need many volunteers,” Mr. Robertson said, adding “the more volunteers, the better the group functions.”
