The original wide-wooden lowclearance door will remain, new windows were added; steel beams replaced the rotted wooden posts.
It’s ready for antiques, reproduction furniture, sculpture, oil paintings, cotton blankets and silver jewelery, dried flowers and wrought iron items.
“It’s going to be one of those places where people can stop when they forgot to get a gift while in town,” she said, adding “it’s more or less country items.”
The basement of Laurel Mills store was once a bar, the cement trough in the comer remains a witness to their bottles placed inside before the cement was dry. Leaving the remains intact, she hopes to rqjstore the trough to its original and use it as display.
“I want to put a card table in the comer,” Mrs. Fannon said, so if someone stops by, they “can play cards.”
“Since it’s so totally out of the way, I don’t expect a great deal of walk-in traffic,” she said with laugther. “But I want people to come see.”
The gallery’s opening will be in October.
“It’s been so much work,” she said looking around her store with pride.
“f don’t think anyone believed I would do it,” she said of her family.
“But, I did. And, I think I am doing everything all right,r she said.
