He noted that all of the chairmen of major commitees have more seniority than Sen. Miehie, but added that with several state senators retiring “Sen. Miehie will move up substantially in seniority.”
He said that Sen. Michie’s success in running for the state senate and before that the House of Delegates shows “the people think he is effective.” He said Sen. Miehie had been particularly effective in getting help for the University of Virginia.
As to the “Wilder/Michie team" and its effect, he said Sen. Miehie had supported Gov. Wilder in some things and opposed him in others. Mr. Home said the budget problems were part of a national problem and that “Virginia is coming out of this as strong as any state.”
He said Sen. Miehie has the reputation of being very knowledgeable about proposed legislation and that others come to him to help them understand laws being proposed.
Mr. Home said, “We feel good about the campaign; we feel he will be reelected.” He said Sen. Miehie will be visiting Rappahannock County during the campaign.
