The supervisors also decided to deny a claim by Frank R. McGhee for the county to pay to repaint his house because dust from trucks carrying debris to an illegal stump dump had defaced it. Mr. McGhee had sent estimates ranging from $700 to $1,360 for the painting.
“I don’t feel it is a matter of concern to the board,” Mr. Gilkey said. “If Mr. McGhee has a claim, it’s against the hauler or the owner of the stump dump.”
Commonwealth’s Attorney Peter Luke agreed and added, “In my opinion even if you wanted to pay it, I don’t find any authority to advise you, you can legally pay this claim.”
The board asked Mr. Luke to wnte Mr. McGhee explaining the board’s position.
The board learned that reassessment notices will be mailed out in late September or October and that the cable TV francise will be ready for public hearing by the September or October board meeting.
The September meeting was changed to Wednesday Sept. 4 because the normal meeting date would be the Labor Day holiday.

As usual the parade, held Thursday, Aug. 1, brought many spectators as well as participants out to ! view and join the fun.
