Dr. Clarke, spokesman for the Wakefield board because board chairman Lynn Hopewell has been hospitalized, said that the coming year will be a “time of transition.”
Dr. Clarke said that one donor has offered the current board a free 75-acre site on which to build a new school. “Nobody said it was going to be easy,” he added.
Both Mr. Longyear and Dr. Clarke conceded that they expected to lose students at the two planned Wakefields.
Mr. Longyear blamed the board for alienating as many as half of the parents. Neither would speculate as to how many students their Wake* field would have.
“We felt all along that Mrs. Lynn would be running the school when it opened in the fall," said Mr. Longyear.
Asked about funding, Dr. Clarke said “It won’t be easy,” and Mr. Longyear said, “I just don’t have the answer right now. Wakefield School just doesn’t have a wealthy population, it’s never had enough money.”
