The Planning Commission will be holding a public hearing on proposed amendments to the zoning ordinance for holding “field par- ' " ties” at next Wednesday night’s meeting.
As currently proposed these “additional standards” will apply to both “for profit and non-profit” groups planning to have carnivals, fairs, shows or music festivals.
These amendments have been drawn up because Sheriff John Henry Woodward said counties around Rappahannock are making it more difficult for people to hold such events and as a result they are being held in this county.
Currently a special exception is required to hold such an event, but there are no standards for issuing a special exception except for the general standards that apply to any special exception.
The proposed amendments would require that music at such an event not last longer than eight hours and end by 11 p.m.
Someone promoting such an event would have to provide a statement “setting forth their name(s), address(es), financial backing,
