Cross Country
In the 1970s Culpeper high school had a boys’ basketball coach who also coached cross-country. He insisted that all his basketball players, who weren’t on the football team, run cross-country. As a result Culpeper not only had a formidable cross-country team, but once the basketball season started, this team could consistently outscore most opponents because of their greater speed and excellent conditioning.
Rappahannock County High School has just finished a very successful season in cross country, but the girls only had two runners and the boys had only five. With several more girls running and a few more boys, the teams might well have finished first or second in the district.
We hope next year more students will go out for crosscountry.
