Today is Monday, Nov, 1, 1993. The last edition of your paper that I received was you Oct. 6 edition. It took our U.S. Postal Service 16 days to deliver it. Since your next publication was Oct. 13, I have now been waiting 19 days for my beloved postman to deliver that edition.
With my savvy for calculation, and considering that my home is just 30 miles below Charlotte, N.C., in South Carolina, I estimate that my paper is travelling via U.S. Mail at the unbelievalble speed of 21 miles a day!!
My Lord, The Pony Express travelled twice as fast in the 1800’s, and without the need of five-digits, automation, and airplanes.
Can I hope that the Rappahannock News will soon hire daring men who will mount their trusty steeds and who, with stops at Charlottesville, Roanoke, Winston, and Salisbury, where they will find fresh horses for the ride to York, still make it 15 days ahead of the current mail service?
