The performances are based on exhaustive research; however, both performers shy away from the idea of presenting a “scholarly” performance. “What we do first and foremost is to play this wonderful music as dramatically and convincingly as possible,” says Orkis. “That doesn’t mean we haven’t done our homework. It means we’re presenting the music in a manner that is different from what many concert goers are used to, but the bottom line is that the performances are still exciting - regardless of the instruments we use.”
Slowik wholeheartedly agrees. “By using period instruments we’re not claiming that it’s the ‘right’ or ‘best’ way to listen to this music,” he says. “What we are trying to do is to provide modem audiences a different way to hear the music.”
