Piedmont Dispute Resolution Center in Warrenton is a relatively new agency providing services to Rappahannock clients. The organization became separate from its parent organization Rappahannock Dispute Resolution with headquarters in Fredericksburg in 1992.

Piedmont Dispute Resolution Center provides services to mediate disputes, sometimes preventing them from ending up in court. Patty Cloud, president, said, “One of our primary objectives is to show that mediation can be an alternative to going to court.”

Mediators are trained volunteers. They may enter the picture in mediating divorce situations, helping the parties reach agreement on property division and child visitation and custody. They are also prepared to mediate in school and business situations.

Ms. Cloud said the organization also holds mediation workshops, teaching students, for example, how to mediate disputes between two of their peers.
