season. The girls improved an incredible amount. Our biggest problem was a lack of experience because many girls don’t play organized basketball until the eighth grade. Next year it will be a lot better. ”
Of his varsity girls’ teamCoach Gary Leake said, “I have been really satisfied this season. The girls have learned a lot and had a lot of fun. They stuck together in a lot of adverse situations. They are a very supportive, close knit team. They care about each other and had the desire to be good and to learn. That’s all I can ask as a coach. In that way, this season was a success.”
Leah Marlett was the leading scorer for the season, averaging 13 points a game, and 12 rebounds.
Although the Rappahannock Panther youth football team did not win any of its games this year, it was a first for the boys and the county. Coaches, boys and parents expect more success next year as all benefit from a first year of experience.
In the youth soccer league Mark Pace’s team remained undefeated in the Under 10 age group after playing the Rappahannock Raptors to a scoreless tie last Saturday. In the under-8 group Rappahannock 1 defeated Rappahannock 2 by a score of 4 to 0. In the U-12 group Rappahannock 2 tied a St. Luke’s team 1 to 1.
