riers struggled to place a full team in the field. Opening at the Hampshire Heritage Days Festival in Romney, W.V., Oliver Culley placed first in the 17-18 year old group; Matthew Mccurry placed second in the 15-16 year old group, and Nick Konick placed fourth in the 14 and under group.
The boys’team had one first place finish and three third place finishes during the regular season. The girls’ team managed only a third place finish. Oliver Culley and Matt McCurry were named to the all-conference team.
Rappahannock County High School coaches expressed satisfaction with their seasons this fall. Cross country coach David van de Graaff said his boys’ team had a 10-2 record in regular season play. During the regular season, Rappahannock lost only to Central and Strasburg, and those teams ultimately placed first and second in the state for single A schools, he noted.
“We would have a much better chance of going to the state meet as a team if we could have 10 boys and 10 girls on the team,” said van de Graaff.
