“The greatest lesson of this campaign has been the wisdom of the people — not necessarily in voting for me, but their knowledge of the issues, and how better they want to be served.
“People want their public officials to be held accountable for what they do. The old technique of coming back from Richmond and saying, ‘This is what I did ... look at all the money I brought you’... that doesn't work, because voters know that that’s their money to begin with.
"We need to get people back involved in where their tax dollars are going. I’m not going to be cavalier and tell people that I know best about where their tax dollars ought to go.”
