The fall sports season came to an end this past weekend with youth soccer games played in the rain, high school senior Mike Grimsley placeing 10th in the State Cross Country championship meet in Blacksburg and a few adults joining the kids in the socer Pay to Play Sunday.
It was a season of several successes for the cross country team and mostly disappointments for the girls’ basketball teams. It was also a season that saw more than 140 youngsters sign up to play youth soccer, and competition for Rappahannock’s first youth football team.
Wakefield Country Day School also concluded its fall schedule. The girls’ varsity volleyball team posted a record of five wins and eight losses, with victories over Emanuel Christian, Wakefield School in Marshall (twice), and Massanutten Military Academy (twice). Bridget Hickson was named to the Delayney all-conference team.
The soccer team finished with three wins, eight losses and two ties. David Brandt was the top scorer with 12 goals and was named to the Delayney Conference team.
